I am half-way with my trip in the States. It has been a great experience filled with a few ups and downs.
I had a good two first weeks of results, but my third week was very disappointing. Although I raced tactically well, my competition was fierce and things didn’t really click. However, I was able to redeem myself the following week. As my coaches tell me, we can’t be on form every single time and there will be times that we don’t perform to our best. It just makes us want it that much more.
And they are correct – I am hungry to improve!
After our 4 week racing block, we were given some time off. I went to check out the sights of NYC! It was an amazing, jam-packed two days! But now, we are back into our volume training block, with the focus on improving race fitness and strength. This means quite a lot of extra miles on the bike, both in training and racing. I will be competing every Friday night on the track in Trexlertown, mainly in the endurance events (as that is what they have programmed) in club-type racing. It is a bit of a shock to the system! However, the fields are of good quality and number, as well as cash up for grabs in each event!
The last event on Friday’s racing was the shortest one of the night – 500m Chariot heats and finals (6 riders line up and race for 500m at once). This was an addition to the programme, which I welcomed despite being at the end of the night. I won my heat, then came the final. With half a lap to go, was able to come around my fellow team mate and beat her to the line! It felt AMAZING!
